The Difference Between AI Wrappers and AI Products

People use "wrapper" as a lazy insult, but the real distinction is useful if you care about product quality.

A wrapper usually exposes a model without a strong opinion about the workflow. It may be useful, but it is not always solving a complete problem.

An AI product wraps intelligence in context, constraints, and a repeated job that users genuinely care about. The model is only one part of the experience.

The difference is not whether AI is inside. The difference is whether the product feels like a complete tool rather than a demo on top of an API.

Products survive because they own the workflow. They remember the user, reduce complexity, and turn raw model output into something dependable.

That is the line I care about: does it solve a real job, or does it just make AI visible?
