What Is Building in Public?
Building in public means sharing the process instead of only the finished result.
That can include work-in-progress screenshots, lessons learned, launch notes, failures, and the thinking behind decisions.
The point is to make the work legible while it is still alive.
Done well, it creates trust, feedback, and momentum.
It also helps the builder stay honest. Once you know the work is visible, you are less likely to lie to yourself about whether something is moving or just taking up time. That kind of accountability is surprisingly useful.
The best public building is not performative. It is simply clear enough that other people can follow the trail and understand what is changing, why it matters, and where the project is going.
That clarity is why the practice can be so effective for small builders who need every bit of compounding they can get.
