AWS Activate is Amazon Web Services' program for early-stage startups. Accepted founders receive cloud credits they can spend across AWS services, along with technical guidance, support-plan access, and training resources.

The credits are the substantial part. Cloud spend is the one cost that grows with usage rather than with revenue, which means it grows before the revenue does.

That is the part the credits pay for: the workers, the queue behind them, and the storage that keeps their results. It is also the part that gets expensive first, because it scales with how many leads a customer runs rather than with how many customers there are.

Until now that ceiling was a budget: how many jobs could run at once, how often they could re-run, how much history was worth keeping. With the credits covering it, those become product decisions again.
